Paul Kern Hilburn, 81, of Honaunau died April 23. Born in Kobe, Japan, he was a veteran of the U.S. Army, a teacher, principal and school superintendent, and was a member of the Big Island Gun Club and the Civil Air Patrol and the Experimental Aircraft Association. Friends welcome at 1 p.m., May 4 at Horseplay for a celebration of life. Please call 328-2163 to RSVP and for directions. Survived by wife, Mary Beth Hilburn of Honaunau; sons, Eric (Rhonda) Hilburn of Boise, Idaho, and Greg (Marlene) Hooten of Austin, Texas; daughters, Tove (Antonio) Mendez of Auburn, Wash., and Carlye (Mike) Hooten of Honaunau; sister, Mary Helen (Walter) Kuehner of Austin, Texas; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.
